The Importance of Adequate Power Protection
In this day and age, businesses and home users alike rely on their computer systems for many important functions. Proper power protection is essential in keeping a PC safe. Inadequate power protection can result in lost of information and/or damage to components.
A computer comprises of many very sensitive parts which are vulnerable to power surges. To that affect the slightest fluctuation in power could damage or destroy a component. Replacing these parts could prove costly since a surge could damage one or more components. Perhaps the most sensitive of all the components in the PC, the hard drive, is the component you least want to loose. It stores all the data on your computer and is necessary to the running of the computer. Even if the hard drive survives a power surge there is still a very real chance of data loss. Data recovery in this case is prohibitively expensive and sometimes impossible.
It is strongly recommended that a surge protector or uninterruptible power supply (UPS) be used to protect your system. A surge protector simply protects the PC from any power surges. A UPS provides this functionality also, but contains a battery which allows the PC to stay on for some time in the event of a power outage so you can save your work and shut down.
Home users who do not have critical files on their PC and would not suffer because of data loss can settle for a surge protector. However if a home user has important documents on the PC or can not risk lost of work due to power outage a UPS is vital. The same goes for a business, considering a sudden power outage can result in the loss of an entire mornings work.
No business should leave their computers without UPSs and every PC should have some kind of surge protection to ensure productivity & longevity. Surges can occur in things as random as power outages or things as predictable as storms or hurricanes. It is better to turn off a PC and plug it out from the socket in any type of lightning storm. If this is not an option it?s best to be protect your computer?s power and data inputs with a UPS or surge protector.
Though these devices are not always 100% effective, they are your last line of defense and their importance should not be underestimated.
